Phil Crothers 1971 - 2013

LMBC are proud to offer the LMBC / Phil Crothers Clubperson Award as a fitting tribute to a fellow mountain biker and a good mate to so many LMBC club members.   

In Phil's honour, the Clubperson Award recipient will receive the Number 1 race plate for the following season, which will be framed and presented to them at the end of the season. They will also receive free race entries to the following season's LMBC races and have their name placed on the Perpetual Trophy.


Who was Phil Crothers? 

Phil was one of the founding members of the LMBC in 2003. Phil, along with a few of his good mates, had a vision of forming a club for like minded mountain bikers in the greater Launceston area. With their own money, a few borrowed tools for trail building, lots of favours and a lot vision and passion, they formed what we now know as the Launceston Mountain Bike Club (LMBC), with Phil being elected as the first Vice President.

Phil had a real passion for the sport of mountain biking, whether it was cross country racing, down hill or just a casual ride with his mates, he loved to ride. Although Phil loved the competition of racing and loved to win, he was just as happy enjoying those basic qualities that draw most of us to the sport. That is being out in the bush riding and exploring new and favorite trails with a bunch of your best mates, of course trying to race your mates and beat them up every hill, but most importantly having a laugh and enjoying the experience that is mountain biking. 

We have drawn on many of Phil’s attributes for inspiration in creating the LMBC / Phil Crothers Clubperson Award. This will be awarded to a nominated club member who displays some or all (but not limited to) the following qualities throughout the race season.

  • Good race etiquette
  • Volunteering for trail building, maintenance, timing events etc
  • Participation in club events and activities
  • Supporting and encouraging others to take up and enjoy the benefits of mountain biking
  • Puts people before placings
  • Member and supporter of the LMBC

Nominations can only be accepted on the official nomination form below. 

The Committee’s decision is final and will be announced at the completion of the season. This is usually the King & Queen of the Mountain.
